Spent most of the last week organising the site transfer from my previous provider to my new one. The new one is both cheaper and much better but it was still quite an exercise! Unfortunately some of the music links still aren’t working… Permalinks are wrong also on the blog. Another couple of days and I should have this sorted out!
The site redesign is coming on well. I’ve noticed this version looks very different on IE (ie worse no pun intended) as to Firefox so I’m going to sort that out. Also it’ll be both simpler but with more functionality ready for the next batch of music that’s coming the next few months. It’ll be nice to put the same attention into the presentation of the music via the website as I have to the music itself.
I’ve got my single Respect finished and available for download. The bonus tracks are really quite interesting and the recording itself is by far the best thing I’ve ever created! I’m going to be contacting some independent labels over the next few months to see if their interesting in funding the next stage (the album…). It cost me 170quid in total to record this single. That included tuning my girlfriend’s parents’ piano and rehearsal and recording of drums. With economies of scale I could record a massive sounding album for very little.
As for 52tochangethworld. I want to carry on but I really want to slow down. I’m doing some really interesting research on deforestation thanks to my girlfriend for getting me into it. The Diigo group has a few links already. I want to take it slowly and do a good job so I’m going to totally ditch the song a week concept and just do them at my own pace.
Not unrelated is my real world situation where I have to make some serious money the next 6 months to stay afloat. As a result I’m doing some IT work… I’ll be improving this site dramatically for my portfolio so Phoenix Imago will reap the benefits in a way! Besides after all the music I’ve been doing lately I’m enjoying a bit of coding again for a change.
I’m now looking for a bassist or maybe a percussionist to do some guerilla gigs around London. Having said that I’m still not sure whether I want my musical base in terms of labels/musicians/gigs to be Italy or UK. Maybe both? I guess maybe I’ll try both and see what happens over this summer.
In 2008 I attended a Stop the War coalition march (I donated and marched on and off
for several years). I found myself inspired by the sight of so many people
from so many disparate backgrounds coming together to say something they all
believe in. Both the message and its delivery were non-violent to the last.
When you don't have money or power and you won't use guns you use your feet
to effect change by marching.
Through Whitehall walks a carnival of citizens,
who believe in something bigger than themselves.
Bohemians and veterans, destiny unites,
and winds them round the story that it tells.
Herded like the revolutionary livestock that we are,
By a gauntlet of uneasy enforcers.
Our hoarse voices are a mirror,
to the lies of those in charge.
We expose and juxtapose the smooth talkers.
Oh the...
...left is right but unrealistic,
the right is realistic but wrong...
...or maybe it's the right that's right, but unrealistic
and the left is realistic but wrong...
An old man plays Jerusalem,
on his saxophone.
A young girl beats a hand drum as we chant.
A festival of empathy, a bazaar of points of view;
we revel in the freedom conscience grants.
Anger at indignity,
breeches barriers of rich men in denial.
Onlookers freeze, undecided,
as their loyalties and frailties beguile...
Oh the...
Not pacified by TV
or possessions or the law.
We shame apathy with each and every step.
Intransigence be damned,
we'll just shout louder truth will out,
That every point of view deserves...
...Respect.
Soon. source recordings will be available to download here along with ecasound scripts, written musical score etc.
