Rock’n'roll Piggy Style!

The Florence-based duo of singer-songwriter Phoenix Imago and artist/animator Jennie Rutz are bringing pigs to life as rock stars in an animated music video. The video features Phoenix’s song, ‘Who Ya Callin Pigs?’, a Jerry Lee Lewis-esque piano rock’n’roll track sung by a pig in protest at the treatment of his brothers and sisters at the hands of humans.
“We want to use humor to make people stop and think about the consequences of their actions. Even if they don’t become vegetarians, anyone who becomes aware of the conditions pigs are kept in, would be happier buying organic meat. We need more fun projects like this to get peoples’ attention.” – Phoenix.
They aim to use a combination of affliliate marketing, sponsorship and merchandise to fund the project. Currently, there are some initial drawings and a freely downloadable piano/vocal demo of the song on the website http://whoyacallinpigs.org/ If people join the mailing list they will get a free mp3 download of the finished song.

How I Live My Life

The post starts off a bit depressing but it cheers up by the end I promise!

I get up every morning with a ‘to do’ list in my head. I hammer away at that ‘to do’ list until I’m too exhausted to continue. Then I slob around for a while until I fall into bed. I do this because I’m afraid that if I don’t then I’ll never have any of the things that I want and the things I love will be taken away from me.

The devil’s in the detail of course… …in the phrasing of the paragraph. What if it said this instead:

I get up each morning excited about all the things I want to do. I give my all to these tasks until I finally relax and enjoy the evening. I do this because I’ll only get to live this life once and I want to explore and appreciate it as much as I can!

Sometimes I just need to lighten up a bit!

Dinner Party

For an exercise on a course she’s doing, my girlfriend had to choose five people (living) she’d like to invite to hew ideal dinner party. It got me thinking…

My List is as follows:

Matthew Herbert: The guy is an awesome musician, as at home with a sampler as arranging a brass section. He’s got a great slant on ethics/politics too.

J. Michael Stracinsky: Created the Babylon 5 TV series and wrote most of it. The sort of dude who can juggle a story that large and deep in his head is someone I would like to meet.

Shakira: OK so she’s a babe but she seems nice too and I love her songs and her voice!

Noam Chomsky: I’m hoping he’s still alive… The man speaks the truth with insight and authority. I’d love to meet him.

Tonya Zavasta: She practices calorie restriction and eats 100% raw vegan. I’m getting there myself but am quite a few steps behind…

Funny how I really enjoyed putting that list together. I’m sure its members feel appropriately flattered!

Two New Songs – soon…

My two new recordings ‘Someone I Can Be Alone With’ and the newly re-titled ‘Have I Told You Today? (How much I miss you, when you’re not around)’ are finished. Just gotta get time to put them up on the website now! This stuff is far more accessible than anything I’ve done previously and is comparable to ‘Respect’ in terms of production quality.

Just as well since I’m off to Italy in a few days where it’s harder for me to record. Several opportunities have presented themselves recently so I shall be looking at them over the coming weeks (whilst running , doing yoga & eating great food & generally having a great time:-)

Big thank you to all who attended last night’s gig at El Camion. You made it such a special evening! And thank you especially to Kate for organizing it all and giving me the opportunity to play. That’s the longest set I’ve ever played solely on guitar (nearly an hour:-) and I think I learnt a lot! Next time I’ll bring my keys along!

In other news, I have a recording of ‘When You’re Not Around’ that is very close to finished now. Maybe another 2/3 weeks. It’s leagues ahead of anything else I’ve recorded in every department and is one of the songs that I’m most frequently complemented on. Gotta be some compensation to spending so much time apart from the one you love eh? Watch this space…
